英国博物学家苏柯仁在东北地区的考察

摘要： 苏柯仁是清末民国初期著名的英国博物学家,在华期间他对中国多个地区进行了深入的博物学考察,尤其是1913—1915年对东北地区的考察具有重要意义。本文依据苏柯仁的自传、著述、信件及相关报道等资料,首先对苏柯仁的成长环境和博物学机缘作细致梳理,揭示他来华进行博物学考察的原因。然后围绕他在东北地区的考察,分析其考察目的与时代背景,还原四次考察路线,介绍相关考察成果,并进一步探讨相关成果对中国生物学发展产生的作用及影响。

Abstract: Arthur de Carle Sowerby (1884—1954) was a famous British naturalist who conducted in-depth investigations of the natural history in many regions of China in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. His investigation in northeast China from 1913 to 1915 was especially important. Based on his autobiography, works, letters and related reports, this paper analyses in detail Sowerby's background and his devotion to natural history, so as to reveal the reasons why he came to China. Then, it analyses the purpose and background of his investigation in northeast China, tracing the four routes taken during the investigation, and introducing the investigation results. Finally, it discusses the role and influence of these results on the development of Chinese biology.
