The Compilation and Editorial Board of the History of Science and Technology in Pre-Modern China

Abstract  The compilation of a book series on the history of science and technology in pre-modern China had long been a shared aspiration for Chinese historians of science and technology. The book series Zhongguo kexue jishu shi (History of Science and Technology in Pre-Modern China), which had been proposed in 1987 and was later published by Science Press, was listed as a key project during the“Eighth Five-Year Plan” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). As of 2011, a total of 26 volumes had been published. The compilation of this book series was hosted by the Institute for the History of Natural Sciences, CAS, which gathered nationwide experts in the history of science and technology for the project. The series was co-authored by over 100 scholars, resulting in a systematic magnum opus on the history of science and technology in pre-modern China completed by the Chinese academic community of the past 60 years.
